Heather has over 15 years singing teaching experience, working in New Zealand, London, The Netherlands and the US, both as a private singing teacher and within various high schools (singing and piano). She teaches a range of musical styles including musical theatre, classical, jazz, and contemporary pop/rock, and works mainly with beginner to intermediate singers, and beginner pianists. Heather is passionate about teaching, and specializes in performance preparation, dramatic interpretation, and helping clients to develop their own unique style.
Originally from New Zealand, Heather has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Auckland (specializing in conducting, voice, and musicology), and her ATCL in singing teaching from the Trinity College of London. She also holds a post-graduate Diploma in Teaching (Auckland College of Education), majoring in music and drama.
After graduating from the Auckland College of Education, Heather was employed as a high school music teacher, and itinerant singing and piano teacher for a number of years. She has directed numerous high school choirs and barbershop groups, and has accompanied her students in diverse performance situations. Heather has also worked both as vocal coach and musical director for various musical theatre companies in New Zealand and in the US, including productions of Evita, Guys and Dolls, Cabaret, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Grease, Pippin, The Full Monty, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Kiss Me, Kate!, and Evil Dead: The Musical. Heather is currently the director of Haarlem Haarmonix - an English-speaking women's community choir based in the greater Haarlem area.
Heather’s singing clients have gone on to win places in regional singing competitions, gain leading roles and take part in professional and amateur opera and musical theatre productions, perform in concerts, join choirs and enjoy many personal vocal successes. Her piano students have gained a thorough grounding in theory and basic piano technique, and have fun exploring and performing repertoire that is meaningful and enjoyable to them.
